You could also call this a wave attack.
They way it works is the defenders have to stop each attack in sequence. So if you send 1 gunt at a time it stops the melee defenders from getting to your snipers.
I like flickers because they are the fastest troops. Not this is where you need upgraded Generals Crypt and Assembly Area so you can lauch multiple attacks.
